Wolfforth has the newest homes of any town we cover. According to the American Community Survey (2020–2024), its median home was built in 2006, compared with 1984 in the city of Lubbock. About 6,701 people live in Wolfforth, and 78.5% of occupied homes are owner-occupied.
That growth is recent. In 2021 KCBD reported a developer building 2,500 new homes just outside the city limits, with an estimated almost 1,000 new students for Frenship ISD and a bond to fund a ninth elementary, a fourth middle school and a second comprehensive high school. The district name itself is local history: the Handbook of Texas says the Wolfforth school combined with three rural districts in 1935 and was renamed Frenship. The town grew up in 1916 when the Panhandle and Santa Fe Railway built through, took its name from brothers George C. (Tildy) and Eastin Wolffarth (the post office's misspelling stuck), and incorporated in 1950.

Where moisture comes from in a newer Wolfforth home
A newer house does not rule out mold. The EPA puts it plainly: "The key to mold control is moisture control." In Wolfforth, the usual sources are:
- Hail and roof leaks. NWS Storm Data recorded 1.75-inch hail near Wolfforth on October 21, 2010, with about 5,000 acres of cotton damaged or destroyed south of town. A cracked shingle can let water into attic insulation for weeks before a ceiling stain shows.
- Plumbing and appliance leaks from supply lines, water heaters, dishwashers and ice makers.
- Summer storms. At the Lubbock airport, about 63% of yearly rain falls May through September.

What to expect if you get quotes
Assessment
A licensed mold assessor finds the extent of the growth and the moisture source, then writes a remediation protocol.
Remediation
A separate licensed remediator follows that protocol. Under Texas Occupations Code §1958.155, the assessor and remediator on one project must be different, and no one may own an interest in both.
Clearance
A licensed assessor confirms the work, and you should get a Certificate of Mold Damage Remediation (TDI form MDR-1) within 10 days.
Keep that certificate with your house records. Under §1958.154, a seller must give buyers copies of certificates issued in the previous five years, which matters in a fast-growing market where homes change hands. Wolfforth mold questions
My Wolfforth home is under 20 years old. Can it still get mold?
Yes. Mold needs moisture more than it needs an old house. A hail-cracked roof, a leaking water heater or a slow drip under a sink can wet drywall and insulation in a new home as easily as an old one. The EPA advises drying water-damaged materials within 24 to 48 hours and fixing the water source, or the mold will likely return.
Should I test for mold before getting remediation quotes?
Often it is not needed. TDLR notes that the CDC does not recommend routine sampling, and the EPA says sampling is usually unnecessary when mold is visible. For larger jobs in Texas, a licensed assessor writes the protocol anyway, and that assessor decides whether any samples would be useful. Prices for assessment come from the assessor.
How do I check a Wolfforth mold company's license?
Ask any company for its TDLR license number and check it on TDLR's license search. You can search by name, number, city or county, and pick the license type, such as Mold Assessment Consultant or Mold Remediation Contractor. Disciplinary orders appear in TDLR's Administrative Orders Search for three years.
